UEFA opens FFP investigation into PSG

UEFA opens FFP investigation into PSG

The French club are understood to have structured the signing in such a way so that they can comply with Uefa's Financial Fair Play rules after their world-record £200 million purchase of Neymar from Barcelona.

Paris Saint-Germain have signed Kylian Mbappé on a season-long loan from Monaco, with the deal expected to be converted into a permanent £166 million transfer next summer.

According to Deloitte figures, as reported by the BBC, PSG made a profit of €10m on revenue of €520.9m euros in the 2015/16 financial year.

PSG went on to detail a three-hour meeting between their deputy managing director Jean-Claude Blanc and "UEFA experts" including FFP chief Andrea Traverso at the organisation's headquarters on August 23 - 20 days after Neymar signed from Barcelona.

Its board will meet regularly over the coming months to evaluate all documentation relating to the case.

"The club is surprised [due to] the fact that it has constantly kept the UEFA Financial Fair Play teams informed of the impact of all player operations carried out this summer [and] were obliged to do so".

But the Uefa committee has taken the unusual step of investigating in order to support the credibility of the FFP rules and monitor how PSG account for their mammoth spending.

This is PSG's last flex in a summer of flexes, and some of the world's best attacking players will be frustrated with lack of playing time in this set-up.

"I was attracted by the club's project, it's one of the most ambitious in Europe", Mbappe said. It will argue with justification that the signing of Neymar, in particular, and now Mbappe has hugely raised the profile and interest in the club and is attracting commercial partners.

Brought up in the northern suburbs of Paris, Mbappe was compared to a young Thierry Henry as he first broke into the Monaco side in December 2015, just before his 17th birthday.

The Ligue 1 giants have secured themselves France football's golden boy for the next few years at least and should he eventually move on, to Real Madrid perhaps, they probably stand to make a healthy profit.

PSG have been sanctioned for breaking FFP regulations previously in 2014 after it was found that a sponsorship deal with Qatar was of insufficient value, per CNN.
