Tropical Storm Jose forms over Atlantic, expected to strengthen

On the heels of Hurricane Irma, which reached Category 5 strength on Tuesday morning, Tropical Jose formed.

Reports from an Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that the maximum sustained winds are near 180 mph with higher gusts, up from 175 mph to 180 mph with the 8 a.m. update.

It's located some 1,500 miles east of the Lesser Antilles in the far-eastern Caribbean Sea.

Irma is moving toward the west at 14 miles per hour.

Jose could begin to feel some increasing wind shear partly due to outflow winds aloft from Hurricane Irma, which may put a crimp on its intensification.

Jose, the 10th named storm so far this season, had winds of 40 miles per hour. The minimum pressure is has dropped to 937 mb, a sign of intensification.

Both islands are part of the northern Leeward Islands, and are under a hurricane warning as Irma approaches the region.
