Iowa stifles Cowboys run game, Wyoming drops season opener

The Hawkeyes got off to a slow start on Saturday, but finished strong, beating wyoming 24-3.

Down 7-3 late in the second quarter, Zaleski handled the snap from the 37-yard line perfectly, but then failed to put his foot on the ball on the punt attempt. Given excellent field position with the botched punt, Iowa took the generous gift and scored a touchdown two plays later on a 27-yard pass from Nate Stanley to Noah Fant. He probably took some of the pressure off the rest of his team, most notably potential first round quarterback Josh Allen, because the whole team was underwhelming in their 24-3 loss.

Pass protection was a concern, which made UW want Allen to get the ball out of his hands quickly.

Stanley hit Nick Easley for his third scoring toss of the day and Miguel Recinos tacked on a field goal for the final score. On the following play, Allen almost connected with Johnson on a deep pass in the endzone, but Johnson was just out of bounds after the play was reviewed.
