Anti-THAAD S.Koreans vow to fight for removal

"We have chose to temporarily deploy the remaining launchers along with USA construction equipment and materials (...) to prepare for the heightened security situation in North Korea due to North Korea's nuclear and missile threats", the South Korean Defence Ministry said in a statement.

China is by far North Korea's biggest trading partner, accounting for 92 percent of two-way trade past year.

South Korea had said already that Pyongyang may be gearing up for another rocket test in the aftermath of its nuclear detonation on Sunday, as it seeks to improve the capacity of its intercontinental ballistic missile program.

Around 600 U.S. troops taking part in military drills in Japan are said to be "ready" to react to any provocation from North Korea.

Speaking at an economic forum in Russia's eastern port of Vladivostok, Putin said Thursday he believes the Trump administration is "willing to resolve the situation".

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un then called the launch a "meaningful prelude" to containing the US Pacific island territory of Guam and called for his military to conduct more ballistic missile launches targeting the Pacific Ocean.

The statement says both leaders stressed that the worldwide community has condemned North Korea's "provocations".

Trump has repeatedly said all options are on the table in dealing with North Korea, including the military one.

South Korea and the United States are technically still at war with North Korea after the 1950-53 Korean conflict ended with a truce, not a peace treaty.

On April 26, two mobile launchers and other THAAD elements were delivered in the middle of night to the former golf course at Soseong-ri village in Seongju county, North Gyeongsang province.

"Villagers and people coming to the village from across the country to block THAAD deployment protested for 18 hours on the road, but the village was completely devastated", they said in a statement.

China lodged another stern protest on Thursday.

"The battery will be operational as soon as the United States finishes its internal procedures", Ministry spokesperson Moon Sang-gyun said at a press conference, reported Yonhap news agency.
