Two terrorists killed by security forces in Pulwama, encounter underway

Security forces killed three suspected militants in an encounter on Wednesday in Pulwama district's Tral region in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to police sources, Army's 42 Rashtriya Rifles, 180 battalion of CRPF, along with the Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched the operation after a tip-off from intelligence about four-five terrorists holed up in the area. "The security forces retaliated, leading to an encounter", an officer said. The gunfight was on when last reports came in, he said, adding further details were awaited. "Operational Commander Field Mehmood Ghaznavi in his message to the militants part of so called Ansar-Gazwatul Hind has said that the doors of Hizbul Mujhadeen is always open for them", Burhanuddin said.

"All three militants have been killed; they were members of Zakir Musa group".

The slain militants were identified as Zahid Ahmad Bhat, Mohammad Ishaq Bhat and Mohammad Ashraf Dar. The anti-India protests and clashes have persisted despite the Indian army chief warning recently that "tough action" would be taken against stone throwers during counterinsurgency operations.

A police statement said two AK-47 rifles and a pistol were found at the site. "Both Ishaq and Zahid were involved in a firing incident at Tral market, resulting in injuries to three persons".

A 16-year-old youth identified as Mohammad Younis sustained critical pellet injuries in the security forces firing.
