Transcript of Trump's Terrible January Call With Turnbull Leaks

But the PM continued to push, "I am asking you as a very good friend", Mr Turnbull said. "I have been making these calls all day, and this is the most unpleasant call all day". "They are not going to be wonderful people who go on to work for the local milk people", he said.

"And now I am agreeing to take 2000 people and I agree I can vet them, but that puts me in a bad position".

Mr Trump said it was "a terrible deal, a disgusting deal", that would make him look like a "dope" and "a weak and ineffective leader", and he feared the refugees would turn into terrorists who would pull off San Bernardino or World Trade Centre-style terror attacks in the US.

Mr Trump: "This was my most unpleasant call, because I will be honest with you".

Trump's feelings on the agreement became even more clear later on in the call. "I do not understand", Trump says, rather than perhaps reiterating American respect for the relationship with Australia.

According to the full transcript, prepared by White House aides and sensationally leaked to the Post, Mr Trump suggested Australia consider releasing detainees held on Manus Island, telling Mr Turnbull: "Maybe you should let them out of prison".

"Can you hear me out Mr President?" he said early in the call.

"I think it is a frightful deal, a disgusting deal that I would have never made", Trump said. This is going to kill me.

Mr Turnbull explained Australia's policy was to stop people smugglers and said even a Nobel Prize victor would not be allowed into the country if they arrived by boat.

Mr Trump: "How does that help you?"

RBA Keeps Policy Rate Steady
In recent months, mortgage rates have been edging higher, especially for investors and interest-only loans. RBA last cut rates in August 2016, when it chose to trim 25 basis points to avoid the risk of deflation.

Following Turnbull's commitment comment, Trump cuts him off: "Okay, this shows me to be a dope".

Turnbull then tries to explain the details of the deal, repeating over and over again that it does not obligate the United States to take any refugees, only to go through the process of vetting them.

In another exchange Mr Trump asked Mr Turnbull: "Suppose I vet them closely and I do not take any?"

He then went on to make clear that "Putin was a pleasant call". "It is very important to us".

The president went on to label the US refugee deal as "stupid" and claimed it would make him "look terrible" in his first week in the White House.

Turnbull tries to appeal to Trump the dealmaker again: "But can I say to you, there is nothing more important in business or politics than a deal is a deal".

The Washington Post's explosive report also detailed Trump's conversation with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto in which he begged him to stop saying his government would not pay to build a border wall "because I can not live with that".

It unclear from the transcript whether this occurs, though the call does appear to end abruptly.

Trump responded by saying "I hope so" before thanking Turnbull and hanging up.
