Six Flags Pulls Down Confederate Flags

Six Flags Pulls Down Confederate Flags

The park was named for the flags of the six nations that at some point had dominion over what is now the state of Texas: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States of America, and. the Confederate States of America. "As such, we have changed the flag displays in our park to feature American flags", a Six Flags spokesperson told NBC 5 Friday.

History has been a prominent theme for Six Flags Over Texas since its inception, although Parker said that has been downplayed some in recent years as the Six Flags brand has grown.

A statement explained the theme park's reasons for the move, after it had previously declined to remove the controversial Confederate flag.

The 212-acre theme park opened August 5, 1961. That's different from the Confederate Battle Flag, but some still found the flag to be inappropriate.

They claimed that white supremacists and neo-Nazis adopted the Battle flag, not the original Confederate flag they have at the park.

And who's gonna argue with seeing more of the Stars and Stripes?

Symbols of the Confederacy have come into fresh focus since last weekend after white nationalists, angered at the planned removal of a statute honouring Confederate General Robert E. Lee from a public park in Charlottesville, Virginia, engaged in violent protests in which a counter-protester was killed.

While speaking with TMZ, officials reportedly differentiated between the Confederate battle flag and the "Stars and Bars" flag, which is the one flown at the amusement park.

It will replace all six flags with just one: the American flag.

From now on, you won't see five of those flags.
