Perseid meter shower to peak this Saturday

Perseid meter shower to peak this Saturday

On a dark, moonless night you should expect to see 50 or more meteors fly by each hour from extremely northerly latitudes.

According to Cooke, the Perseids have never really reached storm levels, and the most meteors it has showered the Earth with so far was about 300 meteors per hour. Give your eyes some time to adjust to the darkness, about half an hour should be good, and try to be on your back or in a chair looking up, take in as much of the sky as possible.

The meteors will be sparser around at that time but, the IMO says, "these meteors tend to be very long and long-lasting so it is definitely worth trying to see some of them".

The Perseids can be seen every year when Earth passes through the trail of the ancient comet Swift-Tuttle.

The highly anticipated Perseid Meteor Shower will finally appear in the skies, and city-dwellers from NY and Los Angeles are still hoping to get the best view to watch the upcoming astronomical display. Look for the constellation Perseus in the northeastern portion of the sky.

Last year, between 150 and 200 meteors were sighted in an hour.

Four-time Olympic champion Cuthbert dies aged 79

Apple's iPhone 8 on track; may sport a fitness detector
MacRumors points out that this news fits with a leak earlier this week that showed off three models of the phone in those colors. Other rumors have suggested that the additional Type-C power adapter will only be required for the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus.

This is because the waning moon will still be at around 80 percent of its full brightness so it will hinder our view of the celestial display. The moon will be about three-quarters full then.

A meteor shower called the Perseids will peak this weekend. They occur with warm, summer nighttime weather.

"Friday night into Saturday morning is going to be fairly miserable, quite frankly", he said.

Around 10-20 meteors should fall per hour.

One other factor that may put a damper on the meteoric action is the fact that the almost three-quarters-full moon, rising shortly before midnight, will outshine some of the smaller, thereby fainter, meteors. Try to be patient and keep a close eye on the sky and you'll probably get to make more than one wish on one of the meteors/shooting stars. Both Friday night and Saturday night between midnight and dawn are the times to watch, although there's a question as to if enough clouds will move out in time Friday night.

The best viewing areas are away from bright sources of light, so a trip into the countryside is best. The earth crosses this river between August 11 and 13 every year, so the meteors appear intensively during that period.
