Neymar Gives Press Conference After Decision on His Transfer to PSG

Neymar da Silva Santos Jr. - known as Neymar - completed his record-shattering transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain on August 3, signing a five-year deal with the French club after it triggered his 222 million euros ($263 million) release clause.

Neymar had been expected to complete his move to the French giants by the weekend after Barcelona announced the 25-year-old striker's decision to leave on Wednesday on the condition his buyout clause was met.

And while he said he spoke with his countrymen ahead of the move, he maintains their presence at the club held little say in deciding his future.

Brazilian journalist Marcelo Bechler said that Neymar made his choice to transfer due to his passion of becoming the best football player in the world.

Neymar signed for PSG until 2022 in a five-year deal and PSG chairman Al Khelaifi confirmed that the Brazilian has a release clause in his contract with the French club. I wanted to think about what I wanted to do with my life.

He said: "What I can say to these people is that they know nothing about personal life".

"We can confirm that the legal representatives of the player attended La Liga to pay the clause and this has been rejected", a La Liga spokesperson told AFP.

With that in mind Barca may be better placed in the long run to save some money for future windows if they are not to end up poorer on the field and no better off financially from Neymar's move.

Legend has it that the night Neymar decided was when Barcelona achieved the greatest comeback against his new club PSG.

Greece says 5-yr bond issue important step towards full market return
Last week, the International Monetary Fund agreed to a new loan "in principle" worth $1.8 billion to Greece. Greece now has no need to draw money from the bond markets - but it is a necessary psychological milestone.

The mood is understandably more sombre in Barcelona where attention has turned to who the Catalans can sign to replace Neymar in the month before the transfer window closes.

Mourinho has presided over his club's two record signings in Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba, the latter being the world's most expensive player before the Neymar transfer.

He said: "Today, it might seem expensive, but in two years" time it might not anymore.

Al-Khelaifi says that before Neymar's signing PSG was worth one billion euros, "and now it is worth 1.5 billion".

We're glad to see Neymar staying positive through the mixed reactions he's been getting - from disappointed Barca fans to a very excited French President - and though PSG hasn't exactly been a top club, Neymar got the ambitious part of it right. "I will miss you".

The record-demolishing deal has drawn criticism, with some saying it contravenes UEFA's Financial Fair Play restrictions which aim to stop clubs spending too far beyond their earnings.

Neymar's first press conference with Paris Saint-Germain has started in a room packed with reporters, photographers and TV crews. "My motivation is to win trophies".
