Buckingham Palace: Police injured as man with knife arrested

The agency's official Twitter account posted regular updates on the situation, as many passersby noticed the area had been placed on lock down.

Witnesses described seeing a man with a sword attacking a police officer.

The unidentified man was taken into custody in central London Friday night, the city's Metropolitan Police said on Twitter.

During the arrest two officers suffered minor injuries to their arms.

"I didn't see the auto driving but the vehicle had been left at the side of the road and an eye witness had said that he had driven towards the police auto".

Buckingham Palace is tonight on lockdown after police arrested a man who allegedly attacked two officers armed with a sword in front of frightened tourists.

The Telegraph reports that police boats with spotlights are searching the River Thames in connection with the incident.

"We believe that it is a terrorist attack", said a prosecutors´ office spokeswoman, who added the attacker "is dead".
