Ambassador to Sudan found dead in swimming pool

Russia's ambassador to Sudan, Mirgayas Shirinskiy, was found dead in the swimming pool of his Khartoum residence on Wednesday, police said.

The Agence France-Presse reported that Shirinsky was found in the swimming pool.

Russia's foreign ministry confirmed the news in a statement carried by state media.

Though there is no apparent evidence to suggest his death is suspicious, Shirinsky is the fourth Russian emissary to die prematurely while overseas on assignment since the start of 2017.

A senior police official in sudan who requested anonymity told AFP that, according to the first elements of the investigation, the track criminal was dismissed.

"We mourn the death of Ambassador Mirgayas Shirinsky, who made friendly and honest efforts to develop privileged relations between the two countries and their people in various spheres", the government of Sudan said in a statement. The ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, was shot by an assailant in Ankara in December 2016.
