Korean media says Trump "confessed" failure to stop nuclear program

Korean media says Trump

US President Donald Trump said he was considering some "very severe things" to respond to North Korea's test launch, calling the country's behaviour "a shame".

A spokesperson for Air Force said the 10-hour mission demonstrated "the ironclad US commitment to our allies".

North Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said its intercontinental ballistic missile is meant to overcome USA hostility and enable the North to "strike the very heart of the any given time".

The UN Security Council failed to adopt a press statement condemning North Korea's test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) because of Russia's opposition, UN diplomats said Thursday.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said the test indicated a quicker than expected pace of the North's ICBM programme.

When the B-1Bs reached the Korean Peninsula, they were joined by South Korean F-15 fighter jets and U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter jets.

U.S. officials have said the USA might seek unilaterally to sanction more Chinese companies that do business with North Korea, especially banks, echoing a tactic it used to pressure Iran to curb its nuclear programme.

"There are countries that are allowing, even encouraging, trade with North Korea in violation of UN Security Council resolutions", Haley said. "Perhaps China will put a heavy move on North Korea and end this nonsense once and for all!" The missile was sacked from a mobile launcher from Panghyon Airport in northwest North Korea, which has not been used in previous missile launches.

In April, during Trump's meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, the president received assurances from Xi that China would do more to contain the North Korean threat.

Trump, in office a mere six months before North Korea's test, never really had a chance to thwart Kim Jong Un's push towards an intercontinental ballistic missile.

Trump has said all options including military force are available against Pyongyang, though its neighbors warn a strike could be disastrous for North Asia.

Speaking at a news conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda, Trump said North Korea was "a threat, and we will confront it very strongly". "We will not look exclusively at North Korea".

He suggested Trump work on "a coherent policy with his military advisers, with our allies".
