Illinois Powerball sales suspended tonight

Revenues aside, lawmakers have to contend with unhappy voters who will go without Powerball and Mega Millions tickets unless they go to another state to buy them. The game is the latest casualty of the state's budget stalemate.

Wednesday's Powerball drawing could be the last for a while in IL, which is operating in a budget void as the state's financial woes swell.

Illinois Lottery operators are putting their foot down, amid the state budget crisis.

There will also be a new victor payment policy starting Saturday, July 1 if funding is not approved by the Illinois General Assembly.

In 2015, almost 3,900 lottery payouts totaling more than $112 million were delayed.

Multi-state lottery games such as Mega Millions and Powerball could soon leave IL if a state budget isn't agreed upon and passed by lawmakers.

IL lottery officials spoke to FOX 32 by phone, calling this a temporary change.

You may remember the IOUs the state sent out a few years ago to some lottery winners. The lottery estimates it lost up to $71.5 million in revenue due to these delays. WHAT THIS MEANS FOR POWERBALL- Powerball sales in IL will be suspended at 9:00 p.m. June 28, 2017.

If you win the lottery in IL, you might have to wait to get your money. They say they have the money to pay winners, but need to wait for a budget that includes lottery funding.
