Brandon Knight Suffers Torn ACL, Likely Out for 2017

Phoenix Suns backup point guard Brandon Knight will miss the entire 2017-18 season.

The team later confirmed the news, noting the injury occurred while he was playing at home in South Florida and that he will undergo surgery.

The Suns said Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time) an examination by team doctor Tom Carter determined the surgery would be required.

Knight, 25, averaged a career-low 11.0 points, 2.4 assists and 2.2 rebounds over 54 appearances in 2016-17, his sixth National Basketball Association season and third with the Suns. At age 25, Knight has only played in 106 games the past two seasons, since signing his five-year, $70 million contract extension with the Phoenix Suns.

Phoenix's guard depth has taken a serious hit. Even if they Suns found a team that would do so, they would have to surrender plenty of draft assets.

For his part, Knight's career has been derailed by injuries.

Tyler Ulis will more than likely be called upon to replace Knight in the rotation.

For his career, Knight holds averages of 15.2 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 382 games with Detroit, Milwaukee and the Suns.
