22 states remove border check posts to facilitate smooth changeover to GST

As the GST converted the entire country into a single market, border check posts have been dismantled by the states, saving precious time for transporters as the trucks spent hours in queues at such outposts.

States where check posts are in the process of being abolished include: Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Punjab, Mizoram and Tripura.

Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are among the other states which have abolished the check posts.

The introduction of the pan-India GST regime from July 1 has given rise to apprehensions here that Nepal's exports to India could henceforth attract higher taxes.
