Trump and Putin to meet at G20

Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the upcoming G20 summit in Germany, the White House has confirmed. "Therefore, this impedes solving the problems faced by the global community", the Russian foreign minister said.

The German foreign minister hailed the possibility of a Putin-Trump meeting.

Some of Trump's advisers had encouraged him to stage formal bilateral talks with the Russian leader in a sign that he's serious about warming the relationship between Washington and Moscow.

Trump will be under pressure to side with the USA intelligence agencies and press Putin on the issue of election meddling, something he has thus far been reluctant to do.

"I find it dismaying and objectionable that President Trump continues to deny the undeniable fact that Russian Federation launched a major cyberattack against the United States", he said.

"No preparations for the meeting are underway, no progress yet", he said.

The situation in Syria and Ukraine would not be the only issues Putin and Trump might discuss, Lavrov said, adding that the main focus should be on the "normalization" of US-Russia relations.

Speaking Wednesday at a news conference in the Russian city of Krasnodar, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he would "assume" the meeting will take place.

Trump and Putin agreed during a phone call in May to work together to defuse tensions with North Korea over its nuclear and missile programs. And in any case, they will meet there on the sidelines of the summit.

In Warsaw, Trump will meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda and attend a summit with a dozen European and Baltic leaders devoted to the Three Seas Initiative.

Anti-Russian sentiments which persist in Washington are harmful to the United States itself and prevent the untangling of important global issues, according to Lavrov.
