Sanders Refuses To Say Whether His Wife is Under FBI Investigation

Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry of wife is "pathetic" attack Why UK millennials voting for socialism could happen here, too WATCH LIVE: Senate Dems hold "People's Filibuster" against ObamaCare repeal MORE (I-Vt.) on Tuesday broke his silence on an Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry into his wife Jane Sanders, calling the probe a "pathetic" and politically motivated attack.

Sanders angrily responded that the allegations against his wife must be politically motivated because the complaint was started by Brady Toensing, a chairman for the Trump campaign in Vermont.

According to allegations leveled last January by Brady Toensing - one of USA president Donald Trump's top supporters in Vermont - Sanders' wife lied about the now-defunct college's financial support on an application for a $10 million bank loan for a 33-acre piece of property it purchased from the Roman Catholic church. This was back when she was president of Burlington college.

Ex-Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has lashed out at claims his wife committed bank fraud.

The Vermont senator would not confirm or deny whether an official investigation was underway, but he did deny accusations that his wife manipulated application information in an effort to secure the loan. "That's pretty pathetic", he said.

As the FBI investigates whether Bernie Sanders' wife committed loan fraud in obtaining funds for a Vermont college she once headed, the senator has been loath to answer questions about the matter. "When she left it, it was in better shape than it had ever been".

"I think it's fairly pathetic that when people are involved in public life, it's not only that they get attacked, but it's their wives and their families that get attacked", Sanders said.

Sanders declined to answer further questions about the matter, other than to say he would "let it play out" and again said an attack on a politician's wife or family was "pathetic".

For his part, Bernie Sanders is refusing to discuss the case.
