Putin: Russian state has never been involved in hacking

Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Indian premier Narendra Modi on Thursday on the sidelines of the Kremlin's annual economic forum, as Moscow looks to burnish a fragile recovery despite tensions with the West. "I'm afraid this is one of the goals those who organize it are pursuing", Putin said. "Modern technology allows this to be done, and done easily".

Prime Minister Modi also remembered the sacrifices made by Russian people, especially Putin's elder brother, in building Russia. "The hackers are the same".

"If they are patriotically minded, they start making their contributions - which are right, from their point of view - to the fight against those who say bad things about Russian Federation", he added.

"No hackers can have a radical impact on an election campaign in another country", adding that "no information can be imprinted in voters' minds, in the minds of a nation, and influence the final outcome and the final result".

However, Mr Putin said that "no hackers can influence election campaigns in any country of Europe, Asia or America".

President Putin expressed happiness that in one week India is becoming the full fledged member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and in one week both would be meeting again.

He said Russian Federation had been encouraged by Trump's campaign promises to improve Russia-U.S. ties and emphasized that Moscow still hopes to forge a constructive dialogue.

Putin said the "Russo-phobic hysteria" in the aimed "against the current president of the prevent him from working normally", but predicted "this will end, sooner or later".

The House intelligence committee says it is issuing subpoenas for Michael Flynn and Michael Cohen - President Donald Trump's former national security adviser and his personal lawyer - as well as their businesses as part of its investigation into Russian activities during last year's election.

He concluded by saying that "my wish is to forge a constructive dialogue underpinned by national interests", and "I believe it's possible with the current US president". In the weeks leading up to the 2016 election, then-candidate Trump denied the evidence of Russian interference and said the offender "could be somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds".

He said they found no trace that the Russian hacking group known as APT28, blamed for other attacks including on the US presidential campaign, was responsible. Poupard described the Macron campaign hack as "not very technological" and said "the attack was so generic and simple that it could have been practically anyone".

But analysts warned that with Putin likely to bid for another term as president in elections next year there are unlikely to be any radical changes.

When referring to his relations with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Putin confessed that there are many contradictions, but there are also many coincidences, above all in the field of trade.

Russian Federation and India enjoyed a decades-long alliance forged during the Cold War, when the Soviet Union was New Delhi's largest trading partner, diplomatic ally and main arms supplier, providing everything from tanks to aircraft.
