No offer received for Ronaldo, says Real boss

Mourinho has been accused by prosecutors of defrauding Spain of 3.3m euros (£2.9m) in taxes while he was Real Madrid coach from 2011 to 2012.

The Portuguese has been accused of tax avoidance in Spain and in the aftermath of those reports, it emerged that he wants a new challenge away from Spain having achieved all he can with the 12-time European Champions.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been mooted as his likely destination and there are suggestions that even Zinedine Zidane's attempts to convince Ronaldo failed.

All these cases are scrutinised from image rights on sponsored deals made by players, not salaries paid by clubs.

Another Mendes client, Colombian striker Radamel Falcao, is suspected of failing to correctly declare 5.6 million euros of income earned from image rights between 2012 and 2013 while he was at Atletico Madrid. But Spanish tax authorities say they discovered - as published by Football Leaks in 2016 - that the image rights company in the British Virgin Islands was part of a chain of companies, including two in Ireland, linked to Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes.

It is understood that Di Maria agreed to a deal with Spain's state prosecutor on Wednesday in which the former Real Madrid forward admitted to two counts of tax fraud of nearly 1.3 million euros ($1.4 million) in exchange for a lighter sentence.

Ronaldo has been summonsed to appear in court in Madrid on July 31 as part of the investigation.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi was convicted of tax fraud past year and was handed a suspended 21-month sentence.

The four-time world player of the year, who said last week his "conscience is clear", is threatening to leave Real Madrid over the affair.

Mascherano was also convicted of tax fraud last year and was given a suspended one-year sentence.

The two were given 21-month jail sentences but neither is expected to serve prison time since it was a first offence and the sentence was under two years.
