Karla Homolka to no longer volunteer at Montreal elementary school

Karla Homolka to no longer volunteer at Montreal elementary school

A convicted serial killer has been doing volunteer work at a private elementary school in Montreal, according to local reports.

It comes from the father of Tori Stafford, who was murdered in 2009 in Woodstock.

School officials have since issued a second statement, saying they will no longer allow anyone with a criminal record to volunteer. Not only do we have to worry about child predators taking our children off the street like Terri Lynn McClintic and Michael Rafferty did with my daughter Victoria in 2009.

"The ministry only gives permits to schools that are a safe place for students attending". When did Karla's human rights become more important than those of the lives she has destroyed?

Homolka was released in 2005 after serving her full sentence and has since changed her name a number of times.

Andy Maraj, whose daughter attends the school, told the newspaper he discovered her history after a concerned citizen handed out leaflets. "But then I saw her and I saw her walking around with her dog for the children to play with". Parents at the school have complained to the school principal and the school board, who were aware of Homolka's identity. She has reportedly visited classrooms as a volunteer, which has led several parents to approach school administrators with their concerns.

"It's really unacceptable", Deligne said. Homolka's plea agreement nevertheless stuck, and she was given 12 years' term for manslaughter.

They explained that Homolka is not a regular volunteer and is never alone with children, adding "It is protocol for all of our schools across Canada, and most of the world, to do background checks, not only on teachers, but [also] volunteers as well as clergy.Rarely would she have cause to go into the school, and when she is, she is never alone". "Apparently, now, I just found out that Karla was showing up with her knitting kit and showing the kids how to knit", he said.

The fact Homolka had moved back to Quebec with her husband, Thierry Bordelais, was confirmed in October 2014 by her younger sister Logan Valentini during testimony at Luka Rocco Magnotta's high-profile murder trial.

"I think she's unsafe and I certainly wouldn't take the chance with my kids to be around her", he added.

She was ordered to report her whereabouts to police, not associate with violent offenders and not contact the families of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy.

In 2016, the media revealed Homolka and her family were living in the Montreal suburb of Chateauguay.
