Girl Disqualified From Tournament for 'Looking Like a Boy'

She told the local NBC affiliate, "When my hair starts to grow I cut it short because I've always had short hair". Her father Gerardo Hernandez is supportive of his daughter's passion, saying, "It's what she likes". And Mili, her family says, had a very 8-year-old reaction when told she wouldn't be able to do something she really wanted to do.

Mili Hernandez was supposed to be worrying about playing in the finals of a youth soccer tournament over the weekend with girls three years older. As part of an official statement, officials said, "Nebraska State Soccer does not run the tournament, nor is it involved in any of the decisions the tournament makes with regards to rules, players, or teams". WOWT said the family showed her insurance card to tournament organizers to prove she's a girl, but it was to no avail. "I didn't like my hair long". He said her full first name is Milagros and that Mili is a nickname she's had since she was a baby. It has been around forever, Audrey Hepburn had one, Mia Farrow and that didn't stop Frank Sinatra from marrying her, Janelle Monae, Scarlett Johanson, Anne Hathaway, oh and Meghan Klingenberg who played on the US Women's Soccer team in the 2015 FIFA World Cup final. And Mili went back to running around a soccer field every chance she got, her hair not quite blowing in the wind.

"They didn't want to listen", added Mili's brother, Cruz. "They don't have a reason to kick the whole club out", she said.

Even though Mili has a good attitude about what happened to her, it's still infuriating. But apparently none of that matters to officials at the Springfield Soccer Club girls tournament, Fox8Live reports. "She has a big future ahead of her", said Mili's coach Mo Farivari.
