Citi Bike Rider Struck, Killed By Charter Bus In Chelsea

They say he collided with a charter bus and fell to the ground.

A bike-share cyclist in NY has become the first fatality in the city since the programme was launched four years ago, officials say.

The collision appeared to be an accident, the authorities said, and the 52-year-old bus driver remained at the scene. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was pronounced dead. "They were very close, the bus and him", a witness tells the New York Post.

Also, Hanegby's death marks only the second fatality in the more than 102 million trips that have been logged on bike-share programs in the USA since 2010 (a cyclist died in 2016 while riding on Chicago's Divvy bike-share system).

A popular bike share program in New York City has had its first fatality.

Hanegby's death is only the second time that a bike share user has been killed since 2010, when the first bike-sharing system was introduced in the US.
