Mulayams words and actions dont match: Congress, BJP also

In his first open and blistering attack on former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, senior Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav on Monday attributed the party's electoral rout to the lacklustre leadership and silly decisions of his estranged nephew.

According to a news agency, Mr Yadav told reporters in Mainpuri that though the Congress left no stone unturned to "ruin" his life, his son Akhilesh Yadav forged an alliance with the party in the run up to the assembly polls. She added that the government should be appreciated for their good work.

He termed Yadav's claim that the Congress was responsible for the current poor state of SP as "baseless".

Aparna Yadav, the younger daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav, has now created a stir by asking SP president Akhilesh Yadav to step down from his post. I had advised Akhilesh for not going ahead with it but he went ahead. We would have won the UP polls with full majority if I was the chief minister.

The Samajwadi Party founder said the leadership of the party would be in the hands of youth in future and added that he would again talk to Shivpal to sort out the issues. The party will also include minorities, farmers and youth.

Sources close to Akhilesh however say he is the undisputed leader of the Samajwadi Party and that there is no space at the top of the party for anyone else. The timing is significant as Akhilesh has just launched a membership drive and asked SP district presidents to report on leaders who indulged in anti-party activities during the election campaign. "No leader of any party in India had made his son a chief minister during his lifetime, but I made Akhilesh the Chief Minister of UP", he said.

Next day, Mulayam backed out saying "I have not spoken to Shivpal for a week and I will talk to him and will never allow the split in 25-year-old party. As for the Samajwadi Party, it has passed every test and will continue to do so".
