The pair climbed the span at about 3 a.m., Teatime said, adding that the pair would wait to do their stunts when traffic was not flowing below. During the ascent, he said, he maintained focus and concentration. Speaking to The Evening Standard, Peter Teatime said the experience was "amazing and breathtaking".

According to the DailyMail, the teenagers were able to climb the structure 746-foot structure in about ten minutes, after slipping under security fences unnoticed. They should not put themselves and others at risk.

"The reckless behavior of the individuals who performed this stunt does not distract from this fact", Clemens said.

Teatime, who describes himself as being a "really curious person", said he has been climbing buildings all over the globe for several years.

Teatime and Rector snuck down the Marin Headlands, along the bridge, and once the sun set, climbed the bridge's suspension stays from the shore. "You will get caught, I am in contact with authorities to make sure people wont climb this bridge!"

Bridge District General Manager Denis Mulligan gave a press conference alongside the CHP Tuesday explaining that the teens were successful because they weren't sneaking around any particularly vulnerable spots on the bridge - I guess structurally? "It is vital public infrastructure and it's a symbol of our community". He also pointed out that he and his friend did not harm anyone or damage any property.

Clemens admitted that the daredevils' adventure "did not trigger any alarms, so the Golden Gate Bridge District's patrol was not aware of the activity at the time". "Our security systems are developed to keep people from harming the structure".

"To us, it's not nerve-racking", he said.

The daredevils said they would be willing to consult with officials on how to improve security.
