World's oldest person dies in Italy at 117

In a study conducted by Anderson et al., it was concluded that some people get healthier the older they get.

According to the Gerontology Research Group, a U.S. body that tracks supercentenarians, the oldest person after Morano is Jamaican woman Violet Brown, who turned 117 on March 10.

Emma Morano passed away sitting in an armchair at her home in the Italy town of Verbania.

He said she had been her usual chatterbox self until a few weeks ago. She lived through two world wars and more than 90 Italian governments.

Morano was the oldest of eight siblings and outlived each of her four sisters and three brothers.

Some doctors had warned her against eating three eggs daily, which she did for years, but she ignored their advice. She died at her home in the city of Verbania.

She adopted the diet after a doctor diagnosed her with anaemia at the age of 20 and she maintained it for more than 90 years. "For years, she has eaten the same thing every day, not much vegetables or fruit". Morano separated from her abusive husband in the year 1938; as divorce was illegal at this point in time, she remained legally married to him until he passed away in 1978.

"Unless a surprise candidate comes out of the trees, she is the oldest living Victorian", said Young.

Last fall on her birthday, Morano declared: "I'm happy I have turned 117!"

"For breakfast I eat biscuits with milk or water". She had never been strict about her diet and managed to sneak in her firewater indulgences right to the end.

According to the US-based Gerontology Research Group (GRG), the world's oldest human is Jamaican Violet Brown, who was born on March 10, 1900.
