Trump to sign executive order to review barriers in United States agricultural sector

While governor of Georgia, Perdue had some similarities to the ethics concerns now dogging Trump - including promises to crack down on alleged corruption in the state capitol of Atlanta which were belied by his refusal to step down from ownership or managerial roles in four farming businesses.

On Monday, April 24, the Senate will hold a vote on confirmation of the nomination of Sonny Perdue to be Secretary of Agriculture.

Additionally, NFU urges Perdue to quickly review and approve the Farmer Fair Practices Rules, "which will provide farmers and ranchers with basic protections against anti-competitive practices".

At the same hearing, Perdue fielded a wide variety of questions with topics that included opening trade to Cuba, developing trade markets in other parts of the world, immigration reform, food safety, RFS, rural infrastructure, rural safety and more.

Trump's budget proposal suggests slashing the Agriculture Department's funding by 21 percent - a cut of $4.7 billion to $17.9 billion - the third-largest proposed cut to any federal agency. The names and hometowns of the farmer participants were not released Monday by the White House.

Fifty Republicans and 37 Democrats voted to confirm Perdue.

U.S., Canada, Mexico partner for joint 2026 World Cup bid

Justice Dept. Tells 9 Sanctuary Cities Grant Money at Risk
Kelly listens after the pair toured the ports of entry and met with Justice Department and DHS personnel Thursday in El Paso, Tex. How far Trump can go, though, and what jurisdictions can do to avoid his ire, remains unclear.

As tensions between the US and Canada grow over the dairy trade dispute, the National Milk Producers Federation said Perdue's support of the export markets is critical.

The White House has not said when Mr Perdue will be sworn in, but he is scheduled to speak to USDA staff on Tuesday morning.

Johnson, from National Farmers Union, said that Perdue will need to work immediately to address the depressed farm economy, offering assistance to struggling farmers across the country. U.S. Sen. David Perdue abstained since he is Gov. He initially endorsed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and then former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, but he stumped for Trump across Georgia in the final months of his campaign and served on the president-elect's agriculture advisory board.

United Fresh Board member Bill Brim of Lewis Taylor Farms of Tifton, Ga., said, "I've known and worked with Sonny Perdue for many years, and I know what a dedicated public servant he is". I've heard time-and-time again that costly and hard-to-understand regulations have and are endangering the ability of our producers to stay in business. "I probably know too much about him, but we won't go there tonight. We are confident he is the right man for the job at hand", Duvall said in a written statement.

"Sonny Perdue is the kind of leader the pork industry, and the entire livestock industry, needs at the USDA", says NPPC President Ken Maschhoff, a pork producer from Carlyle, Ill.
