The Nintendo Switch is the Fastest Selling Console in Nintendo History

Both the Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild broke internal sales records during their release month this past March.

Fiscal-year earnings release set for April 27. GameStop said last month that the game had an "almost one-to-one attach result" with the Switch hardware, and the title sold to about 91 percent of initial Switch owners in France. Because of the fast start, SuperData said that it is revising its projected sales figures for 2017 to 7.2 million units sold, up from 5 million. The news of sales number is revealing how well not only the Switch is doing but also Zelda. New consoles, from Nintendo and others, are historically released in the immediate lead-up to the holidays. They assure that they are working hard to make sure that more consoles are continually being shipped to retailers.

The initial success of the Switch - which works as both a TV-linked console and a portable device - is directly tied to Nintendo's classic video game franchise "The Legend of Zelda", according to analysts. Then again, 460,000 people in the USA picked up a copy of Breath of the Wild for the Wii U, which seems like a better move if you simply can't wait for Switch hardware. Since the console's launch last month, the Switch has been almost impossible to find on store shelves, and whenever units come in, they're quickly swiped by fast-acting consumers.

The Nintendo Switch sold more than 906,000 units in the USA during March, its launch month, Nintendo announced today.

Sony had nothing to say, but but they've managed to outpace the Xbox One five months in a row with the PS4, so that's better than nothing.

NPD Group also tracked the critically-acclaimed game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which sold over 1.3 million units for the Switch and the Wii U combined.
