Microsoft will unveil Project Scorpio, the next Xbox, at E3

Project Scorpio is expected to be revealed at Microsoft's E3 2017 press conference in June where the focus will be on the exclusive first party games that will support the console's launch at the end of the year. Every game that is playable on a standard Xbox One or Xbox One S will be playable on Project Scorpio, and vice versa, but performance will be better on Scorpio. Heck, Microsoft didn't even show any cool new game footage yet.

To start, the Project Scorpio dev kit features more powerful hardware than the console Microsoft will ship to consumers later this year.

Keep your eyes at windowslatest for more news about the Xbox Project Scorpio. At GDC in March, we announced the Xbox Live Creators program, opening up access for anyone to create and publish a game to Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 PCs. Scorpio will be able to take advantage of AMD FreeSync 2-powered monitors as well, future-proofing the console for when the technology eventually arrives on living-room TVs.

Microsoft's previous console, Xbox One, runs at 1.32 teraflops per second. According to the Redmond-based tech titan, the Scorpio will be the last console generation. Because from a hardware standpoint I think you can kind of do that, though I still think we're early, but from an experience standpoint I don't think we've seen the things that we need to really have VR break out.

Regarding the Xbox Project Scorpio dev kit, the console is packing the same processor and a slightly powerful GPU.

Nintendo Direct for Upcoming Switch Games Coming This Week
The developer plans to show footage from both games and if we are very lucky, could reveal a final release date for the masses. Here's an example of one of the songs I play in the video at the top of this post being played on the hardest difficulty.

Also arising from developer feedback is a new cooling system allowing developers to stack as many as 10 dev kits on top of one another.

The Xbox One and Xbox One S dev kits were almost identical to the retail versions, so there's a chance this is the design Microsoft has settled on.

Of course, this Project Scorpio developer kit is still just that - a developer kit - and it's unlikely Microsoft would reveal something close to the console's final design as part of a technical deep dive.

Microsoft wants developers to build the biggest and best games on Xbox going forward and it's going to supply them the hardware to do it.
