Mets' Lugo sidelined with partial UCL tear

- The New York Mets pitching staff has suddenly become a little thinner as right-hander Seth Lugo has been diagnosed with a slight UCL tear in his pitching elbow per Marc Craig of Newsday. Once he returns, he is worth a flyer in deeper formats in case he works his way into the rotation, but he can be cut loose for now in the majority of single-season formats. Lugo received a platelet-rich plasma injection for his elbow and he's now resting for an indefinite period of time.

According to the Daily News, several Mets sources have privately complained that Lugo injured himself while pitching for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.

Seth Lugo of the New York Mets pitches against the Giants in the bottom of the first inning at AT&T Park on August 19, 2016 in San Francisco. The losses of Lugo and Matz put even more pressure on them to stay healthy, however. But in addition to Lugo, they've lost Matz with a strained flexor tendon.

The Mets, who beat the Atlanta Braves 6-0 on Monday in their first game of the season, still boast a formidable starting rotation that includes Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler and a talented bullpen that features Jeurys Familia.
