Left for arrest of all TMC leaders named in Narada sting operation

Reacting to the development, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserted that merely filing of the FIR by the CBI against TMC leaders in the Narada tape case did not mean that their guilt have been proved. There is no need to tackle it politically.

Leaders representing LF constituents, including CPI (M), CPI, Forward Bloc and RSP, walked from Esplanade to Entally in central Kolkata condemning the involvement of TMC leaders in Narada sting operation case. Most of those facing investigation are members of Parliament and cabinet ministers in West Bengal.

CBI yesterday filed FIR against Madan Mitra, Mukul Roy, Saugata Roy besides Sultan Ahmed, Iqbal Ahmed, Kakoli Ghosh, Prasun Banerjee, Shbhendhu Adhikari, Sovan Chatterjee, Subrata Mukherjee, Syed Hussain Meerza, Firhad Hakim and Apurva Poddar.

IPS officer S.M.H. Mirza was the other person named in the list. The FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code's 120 B andSections under Prevention of Corruption Act's Section 7 and Section13. "The CBI conducted the Preliminary Enquiry into the said allegations expeditiously. Further investigation is continuing", a CBI press release said.

A month back the Calcutta High Court had ordered a CBI preliminary inquiry into the case on March 17 asking them to submit their report within 72 hours.

Days later, TMC leaders and the state government moved to the Supreme Court against Calcutta High Court's order. The CBI will soon start questioning them.An SIT will be formed to probe the case. "FIR has been filed against 12-odd people whose names are there in the public domain, and another person", a CBI source said. The alliance was prompted after the saffron party indicated a big push in West Bengal and Odisha during its recently-concluded National Executive meeting in Bhubaneswar. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should immediately remove them from the ministry.

"She needs to be asked whether she still feels false cases have been lodged against the Narada accused?" he asked.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury demanded that all the accused TMC leaders should be interrogated in the police custody. "It is a political game, and has to be tackled politically", she said.
