Jay Z pulls album catalog from Apple Music and Spotify

In a statement to The Verge, a rep for Spotify said that the removal of some of Jay Z's catalog was done "at the request of the artist".

Jay Z has removed al of his albums from Spotify and Apple Music.

This all comes as Jigga's own streaming service, Tidal, continues to compete with the juggernauts of the industry, having launched just two years ago. Shortly after that his "Life of Pablo" song showed up there, and not long after the whole "Saint Pablo" album was available, pretty much killing the claim that his music would stream exclusively on Tidal.

In January, Tidal sold a 33 percent stake in the company to Sprint for $200 million, giving it access to the telecom company's 45 million customers. Spotify, however, has argued that this balkanization of content is harmful to music fans' experience, and to the music industry overall.

In recent months also, Tidal had several rumors of acquisition; Spotify, Google and other services reportedly were showing interest in the streaming service. For practical purposes, that means the only real difference between Tidal and Apple Music and Spotify are exclusive streaming deals.
