Jaguar Gives the F-Type a Four-Cylinder for 2018

Ian Callum, director of design at Jaguar, said: "Retaining the silhouette of F-TYPE across the model range is really important to us whether it's the 200mph SVR or the new 2.0-litre four-cylinder".

Jaguar has introduced a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, based on the Jaguar Land Rover "Ingenium" platform built in the United Kingdom, to power its F-Type.

The new four-cylinder is a turbocharged 2.0-liter unit making 296 horsepower and 295 lb. -ft. of torque. It also comes exclusively with an 8-speed automatic. The same is coupled to an eight-speed Quickshift transmission and delivers good response with power available throughout the rev range.

The F-Type with the new engine will be a more civilised and quieter beast.

The four-cylinder F-Type has a curb weight of 3360 pounds, a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds, and a top speed of 155 miles per hour.

Fuel consumption is reduced by 16% over the V6 model, with the new derivative achieving an average 39.2mpg and Carbon dioxide emissions of 163g/km.

Taiwan bans human consumption of cat and dog meat
Last year, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen adopted three retired guide dogs to live along with her two cats, Cookie and A-Tsai. Hong Kong and China have banned the killing of dogs and cats for sale as meat, but have not specifically outlawed consumption.

The V6 engine from Jaguar will also be soon replaced with a straight six motor from the Ingenium family of engines. The R-Dynamic model is further differentiated by standard 20-inch Dark Grey Diamond Turned alloy wheel designs and by Gloss Black front air intake bezels.

Since launching back in 2012, the Jaguar F-Type has been all about supercharged V6s and V8s, but Jag is about to break with tradition and offer an alternative: a base-level four-cylinder turbo. On the inside, the F-Type will now offer new lightweight slimline seats with improved ergonomics, which will be available in sport and performance forms, in addition to three new aluminum trims and a carbon-fiber trim for the center console.

Although the acceleration time may by slightly slower, the four-pot F-Type may have the chance of being more agile to drive because Jaguar says it is 52kg lighter than the V6.

The 2018 F-Type goes on sale later this year, starting at $59,900.

At the rear the four-cylinder model features a unique single tailpipe finisher to distinguish it from the twin central exhausts and quad outboard exhausts of the V6 and V8 models. But, the introduction of a version that might bring the sports coupe closer to more buyers was big enough news on its own.

New safety tech like autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, plus adaptive speed limited and driver fatigue detection also become available.
