During border visit, Sessions outlines immigration plan

"Now is the time for action, now is the time we will have results".

Sessions has made immigration enforcement a key Justice Department priority, saying he will speed up deportations of immigrants in the country illegally who were convicted of federal crimes.

Trump has also received resignations from all the USA attorneys across the country, meaning he will now be able to hand pick the prosecutors who will implement Sessions' memo at the border.

Additionally, the Attorney General revealed that the Department of Justice will add 50 more immigration judges to the bench this year and 75 next year.

Sessions will tour what is mostly rough terrain along the global border in Nogales, Arizona, about roughly 70 miles south of Tucson.

"Every dollar spent on prosecuting an illegal immigrant for illegal reentry is a dollar that could have been spent on prosecuting or investigating a real real", said Alex Nowrasteh of the libertarian think tank Cato Institute.

Sessions also increased unauthorized entry into the United States from a misdemeanor to a felony on the second offense "if certain aggravating circumstances are present", he said. "The lawlessness, the abdication of the duty to enforce our immigration laws, and the catch-and-release practices of old are over".

In an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity the former Alabama senator reiterated that the US/Mexico border was not open for anyone to walk through and violators will be prosecuted and deported.

Most states have followed the federal lead, some facing budget crises, Sessions said.

Visit to WH grounds by intel chairman clouds investigation
Yates was sacked in January as acting attorney general after she refused to defend the Trump administration's first travel ban. The lawyer said Yates still meant to testify and would not disclose any classified information.

"This is a new era", he said.

Sessions also issued a memo to federal prosecutors that would up charges against undocumented immigrants.

Sessions also said he will add 125 immigration judges over the next two years to "reduce the significant backlog in our immigration courts -backlogs and catch -and-release policies have undermined the effectiveness of our law officers' work". From January to February of this year, illegal crossings dropped by 40 percent, which was unprecedented. If someone dares to assault one of our people in the line of duty, they will do federal time for it.

Sessions said he was issuing a memo mandating prosecutors to prioritize immigration enforcement on offenses that were not "prosecuted in the past".

"Once again, Attorney General Sessions is scaring the public by linking immigrants to criminals despite studies showing that immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than the native born", Chen said.

Government attorneys will also consider felony prosecution for individuals who get married to evade immigration laws, Sessions wrote.

Between September 2015 through September 2016, 52 percent of all federal prosecutions in the US were for immigration violations.

Sessions is one of the leading forces behind Trump's immigration policy, and has always been a proponent in the Senate of hard-line immigration policies. "It is here that criminal aliens and the coyotes and the document-forgers seek to overthrow our system of lawful immigration".

When delivering the speech, Sessions dropped that last bit about how Mexico is basically the origin of "filth".
