City Of Seattle Files Lawsuit Against Trump's Executive Order

On Monday, Sessions said the Justice Department would withhold grants from those sanctuary cities.

Notwithstanding any other provision of Federal, State, or local law, a Federal, State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.
Public safety depends on trust between law enforcement and those who bravely serve; yet, again and again, President Trump's draconian policies only serve to undercut that trust. The City of Denver, and every local jurisdiction in the state, is in compliance with federal immigration law.

Police in sanctuary cities across the country have barred officers from routinely checking on immigration status when making arrests or during traffic stops, and have also refused to extend the detention period of anyone picked by the police in order to assist federal agents seeking to deport them.

If sanctuary cities are ignoring federal laws that protect American jobs and rid cities of violent illegal immigrants, then they deserve to be challenged, says William Gheen of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, or ALIPAC.

"We are going to become this administration's worst nightmare", New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito said Monday during a gathering of municipal officials from urban centers such as San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Chicago and Philadelphia.

That famously liberal city is also where an illegal immigrant, previously deported five times, shot and killed Kate Steinle (pictured above) in 2015 as she visited a pier with her family.

He said he wants to know why the materials appeared to be directed through Nunes if they originated at the White House. A number of Democrats, and even a Republican legislator, have called on Nunes to recuse himself from the investigation.

The Justice Department on Tuesday declined to comment further.

"Such policies can not continue", Sessions said Monday.

City leaders insisted such examples are the exception, not the rule. About $55 million of Seattle's 2017 operating expenses comes from federal funding, and more funding is dedicated to longer-term capital investments, the city said. The federal government also can't punish local governments with the threat of pulling federal funding unless it's relevant to the program, which is what the administration is doing, argues Holmes.

"The expectation that the federal government will enforce our immigration laws is reasonable, and our government has a duty to meet it". It's used to describe communities with a range of local ordinances. The suit claims that the policy amounts to an unconstitutional federal coercion that violates the Tenth Amendment, which helps guarantee state's rights.

There are more than 11 million undocumented immigrants in America, and these cities, counties and states don't agree with deportation as a solution for people who have been building new lives here.
