Bruins coach Cassidy ready to return to playoffs

While the advantage of having four lines isn't as big with so much time between games, it does give Boucher and Senators players confidence to know they can be used in countless situations, even with the game on the line. That leaves him doubtful for Saturday afternoon's Game 2 matinee vs. the Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre, and means the Bruins are leaning toward activating little-used Joe Morrow for a playoff game. The Sens will want to close their stay at home with a win before heading over to Boston.

Ottawa's first go-around against the Bergeron line, which included wingers Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, went about as poorly as expected, and was probably the biggest reason why the Senators weren't able to win Game 1. Eventually, the Bruins got the bounce they needed when Bergeron's shot was blocked in front but the carom went straight to Marchand, who wasn't going to miss a wide-open net from here. Boston Bruins' interim head coach Bruce Cassidy made that known ahead of his team's first game against the Ottawa Senators. "They got a couple chances and they put them in. And that's when they're at their best".

"We've got a lot of different assets that are going to need to step up at different times".

"I think really we just didn't play well enough to our strengths", said defenceman Dion Phaneuf.

Boston was outshot 12-0 in the second and was fortunate to trail by just one.

He had the second-longest time on the ice of anyone on the team. "We were able to get that fortunate bounce there and it turns out to be the game-winning goal, so that was awesome".

Cyclone rips off roofs, flings boats onto land in Australia
Hundreds of schools closed Tuesday and more than 20,000 households were without power by mid-afternoon, the AP said. The devastation left behind by the storm has some residents ready to walk away from their business and the region.

Musa will still play for Leicester, says Shakespeare
Despite Leicester City's shaky season the club have impressed in the Champions League and this will be a huge night for fans. However, the Toffees could do the league double over Leicester for the first time since 1987.

Trump, Xi meet again - in shadow of missile strikes on Syria
Trump has long said North Korea is China's problem to fix, criticizing Beijing for refusing to use its influence over Pyongyang. That message may have been underscored by the US missile attack on Syria that took place as the two leaders had dinner.

Midway through the period, Ryan took the puck off Adam McQuaid and went to the net where Rask made the initial save, but Ryan pushed his way past Zdeno Chara to the net and scored on his own rebound.

I also find it interesting you include Brassard in here because most Sens fans would say this season was a disappointment. To me, it was the only glaring and notable hole in Ottawa's opening game, and if that's the case, there's still some real opportunity to survive and advance. Carlo took a crushing hit from Alex Ovechkin, forcing him to leave the game. With an already depleted blue line, the Bruins can hardly afford to lose another defenseman. Maybe the Bruins fire Cassidy and replace him with Jack Capuano before the series starts.

Boston was also without David Krejci who was a late scratch as he continues to deal with an upper body injury and is considered day-to-day at this point. It looked like this one might head to overtime (as two other games did on the opening night of the National Hockey League playoffs).

Boston will be without defensemen Torey Krug (knee) and Brandon Carlo (possible concussion) for the start of the series, at least. The Bruins averaged 3.37 goals-per-game in their final 27 games, which over 82 games would have made them the second-best offense in the National Hockey League. At this point it appears Chris Kelly, Ryan Dzingel, Chris Neil, Colin White and Chris DiDomenico will be the odd-men out.

Defenceman Erik Karlsson will return after missing the last three regular-season games with a lower-body injury, Dorion said Methot, who hasn't played since March 23 due to a finger injury, has a very good chance of being ready Wednesday.
