Woman questioned after 9yo boy mauled, 5yo boy missing in Murray River

The alleged attack unfolded near the Victoria and New South Wales border, on the Victorian side, after the mother took her two sons from their grandmother's care in Deniliquin and drove them to a friend's home, which backs onto the river.

Although yet to be formally identified, police believe the body to be that of the five-year-old whose mother they allege tried to drown both her sons in the river on the NSW-Victoria border on Thursday.

But officers are still scouring the river searching for the unnamed woman's five-year-old who was allegedly seen drifting face down in the water.

During the court hearing, she was refused bail.
