House Committee Establishes Parameters For Russia Investigation

After Donald Trump won the election in November, the USA intelligence community issued an assessment that Russian Federation sought to sway the election in his favor through the hacking of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's campaign staff. Trump has repeatedly rejected suggestions that hacking by Russian Federation or other actors helped him win.

"This situation was serious, as is evident by President Obama's call for a review-and as is evident by the United States response", Eric Schultz, Obama's spokesman, said.

One official said the memo from the counsel's office instructs White House staff to preserve material from Trump's time in office, and for those who worked on the campaign, relevant material from the election.

USA intelligence analysts have concluded that Russian Federation tried to help Trump win the White House by discrediting Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her party through cyber attacks.

The Obama administration officials sought to ensure that something like Russia's meddling in the 2016 election never happens again and to set up a future investigation into the matter with a "a clear trail of intelligence for government investigators", the New York Times reported Wednesday, citing former American officials. The White House has launched an aggressive effort to discredit the report, including enlisting GOP chairmen of the congressional intelligence committees to push back against it.

President Donald Trump has been dogged by questions about his advisers' ties to Russian Federation since the campaign. Between Nunes's role on the transition and now his threats to the press?

Members have already said they plan to ask former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to testify as part of their investigation and could bring other top Trump advisers before the panel.

Flynn's contacts with the Russian ambassador during the same period also received intense scrutiny.

Anonymous sources also told the newspaper that Trump's Justice Minister Jeff Sessions had two meetings with the Russian Ambassador to the United States past year. But these meetings stand in direct contrast to Sessions' claims that he had "no communications with the Russians".

But Sessions also revealed that he had, in fact, met with Russian officials twice before he officially endorsed Trump.
