Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher honored at public memorial in Hollywood Hills

Fisher died on December 28, at the age of 60, after she reportedly went into cardiac arrest and could not be revived.

She remained in the hospital for a few days, but on December 27th, she passed away.

Reynolds, 84, who won moviegoers' hearts as a star of "Singin' in the Rain", suffered a brain hemorrhage the following day at the Beverly Hills estate the pair shared as she was making funeral arrangements.

Intense, right? And so very, very heartbreaking.

It took place at the Forest Lawn cemetery in Los Angeles, the final resting place for Carrie and Debbie, 84, who died within two days of each other a year ago.

And it was so, so touching.

Comedian Dan Aykroyd, who was briefly engaged to Fisher in the 1970s before she Wednesday singer Paul Simon, and actor Griffin Dunne, her close friend, paid tribute to the actress best known as Star Wars' Princess Leia at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where the pair are interred in a joint grave.

In a speech to the audience, Todd explained that "When Carrie died, my mother chose to change her plans a bit".

Dan Aykroyd, Carrie'd one-time fiancé, provided the closing remarks.

There were several poignant moments during the service, including one that came after a video of Carrie in Star Wars was shown.

In an earlier interview, Todd said that "The last lyric in the song, it's a handsome song, is 'I'm here to let you know". "I'm here to let you know, I'm here to let you go".

Todd explained that his mom had previously said that she didn't want to outlive her daughter, who had battled drug addiction and mental illness over the years. "She was very connected to her fans and felt they were a part of her, so we're opening it to the public". Fisher died several days after falling ill on an worldwide flight, and Reynolds died of a stroke.

What an incredible loss, but still, what a touching tribute to these two legendary ladies.
