Bronx man arrested after running over EMT technician

Police suspects a 25-year-old man for the killing of a New York City Fire Department's (FDNY) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in Bronx Thursday after he stole the EMT's ambulance and ran over her, reports said.

Speaking from the medical center Thursday night, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said, "An EMT was lost in the line of duty, bravely doing her job and encountering the kind of danger that our EMTs should not have to confront". The eldest is 24 and the youngest is 7 and lives in CT with his dad. He told NBC 4 NY he lived with his mother and his uncle in Arroyo's apartment on Creston Avenue; Montes said his siblings range in age from 7 to 23. One of the EMTs, a woman, was later pronounced dead, they said. "We will, with her family, celebrate her life", he said. Nigro said she was the eighth emergency medical services member to die in the line of duty.

Police say Gonzalez was charged with three counts of murder, grand larceny, and driving while intoxicated. He says he's innocent. Arroyo and her partner tried to prevent the individual from driving away but the man put the ambulance in reverse, knocking Arroyo to the ground and driving over her with the vehicle.

Arroyo was the mother of five and a 14-year veteran of the FDNY EMS, according to Mayor de Blasio.

Leaving her body in the roadway, Gonzalez tried to turn left on Watson Avenue, but hit two other parked cars.

The video posted on Twitter captured both the arrest of the driver and a scene of anguish as the second EMT kneeled, sobbing, over the body of her fallen partner.

The other EMT was in the passenger seat of the ambulance as it was being stolen.

Arroyo's slaying was described in gruesome detail later Friday morning, when the NYPD released information about the charges filed against Gonzalez.

Police didn't immediately identify the man who was arrested or the killed EMT.

Gonzalez, a Bronx resident, was charged with three counts of murder, grand larceny and driving a auto while impaired by drugs, police said.

"Makes sense, the guy just ran over her partner", an FDNY source said.

He added: "We know our EMTs (emergency medical technicians) are fearless".

At about 7:10 p.m., someone flagged down the driver, Yadira Arroyo, 44, to tell her Gonzalez was on the back bumper. "This person had no business being in the ambulance".
