Briton David Taylor jailed for killing Bali policeman

British DJ David Taylor has been found guilty of the murder of a Bali police officer last August and sentenced to six years in jail.

The judges found Taylor guilty of killing Kuta Police officer Wayan Sudarsa.

Prosecutors had sought eight-year terms for the pair on charges of group violence causing death.

She is reported to have said that when she saw Taylor punching the officer, she tried to separate them before the policeman bit her twice.

Connor, who has two young children in Australia, had denied playing any role in killing Mr Sudarsa.

Taylor, 34, was sentenced to six years behind bars.

During their four-month trials, Taylor claimed he had been acting in self defence, saying he "feared for his life".

Shortly after the verdict, Taylor consulted with lawyers and then told the judges: "I accept the charge, thank you" meaning he did not intend to appeal what many consider to be a very favourable verdict given the officer's violent death.

While Connor has maintained she did nothing but try to separate Mr Sudarsa and Taylor during this melee, Chief Judge Made Pasek found she effectively pinned him down.

British national David Taylor sits in a court room during his verdict trial in Bali, Indonesia, Monday, March 13, 2017.

He added: "At the end, we are content with the sentence".

The pair were not convicted of the more serious charge of murder after prosecutors recognised they had not meant to kill the officer.

After the verdict, John Taylor, tearfully addressed the media: "We are immensely saddened and our hearts go out to to the widow of police officer Wayan Sudarsa and his family to whom we extend our deepest condolences".

From the beginning, Connor has staunchly proclaimed her innocence - with her lawyers at one of the first hearings calling on the court not to "sacrifice" the Australian woman.

Mr Purnomo said that Connor and Taylor were kissing and cuddling on the beach when Connor panicked when she realised her handbag was missing because it contained her licence and bank card, wallet and money.

Connor pulled the officer's hair and he pulled her hair during the beach tussle.
