Netanyahu asks Prime Minister May to consider new sanctions on Iran

Ahead of his talks with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Netanyahu said other nations should follow new U.S. President Donald Trump's imposition of sanctions against Iran following a ballistic missile test.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been received at Downing Street for his first face-to-face meeting with his British counterpart. "I want to speak with you in order to make sure Iran's aggression doesn't go unanswered".

William Bell, Christian Aid's Advocacy Officer for the Middle East said: "Growth in illegal settlements is at record levels so these talks are timely and of utmost importance. It seeks to conquer the Middle East", he said to his host in front of the TV cameras. "It threatens Europe; it threatens the West; it threatens the world, and it offers provocation after provocation". "Will she stand firm against Trump's unilateral belligerence, back diplomacy and the progress made on this crucial deal; or reverse British policy to curry favour with Mr Trump?"

"That's why I welcome President Trump's insistence on new sanctions against Iran". I think other nations should follow suit, certainly responsible nations.

Echoing Mrs May's words in a speech in Philadelphia last week, the spokeswoman added: "What needs to happen now is that it needs to be properly enforced and policed and we also need to be alert to Iran's pattern of destabilising activity in the region".

She said she believed there was "much more we can do" and that it was important to look at how the future relationship could grow. "The prime minister reiterated the UK's opposition to settlement activity".

If the impeachment vote is upheld by the Constitutional Court, she will have to quit and an election would be held two months later.

"Together with the imminent Regularization Bill this is effectively annexing Palestinian land to Israel, Mrs May must strongly oppose such moves which will further hinder the peace process".

"We want to be able to support finding a resolution, finding a path to the two-state solution", said the spokeswoman.

Downing Street has said that while Mrs May was expected to raise concerns about settlement building, it would only form a small part of their talks in No 10 which would focus on bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and Israel including the potential for more trade post-Brexit.

They also discussed intelligence-sharing and cyber-security.

Mr. Netanyahu stated, "Thank you Prime Minister".
