Gunman kills girl, 8, after auto accident

An 8-year-old Houston girl survived a auto crash Saturday morning - only to be shot and killed minutes later.

The accident happened at the intersection of W. Fugua and S. Sam Houston Parkway around 3 a.m. The other driver fled in a dark, four-door sedan. "She later died from her injuries at the hospital", said Detective David Stark with the Houston Police Department.

Police continue looking for the drivers of the Pontiac and the sedan.

"I kept telling her, 'Wake up, wake up".

"I pulled her shirt up, and she got shot - the bullet went in the right and came out the left side", Thomas said.

"I don't know who it was and I don't know why she was shooting", Thomas said. Officers say two cars were headed south on West Fuqua when they crashed into a black Honda Accord going east along the Beltway feeder road.

Thomas said she thought her daughter was still sleeping when she pulled her out of the vehicle and put her on the ground, but then she saw blood on her jacket. She was an honor roll student who was just beginning to learn how to play the violin.

The kids beamed with delight as they joined their mother at the grand unveiling of her latest project. The 41- year-old was seen doing something very intriguing on live television in Cambodia.

But before it drove off, the sedan pulled up next to the Honda and a woman leaned out with a gun.

"I should've taken a different route", she said.

"I laid her on the ground and when I looked at her jacket, I saw a blood stain. She didn't. She was only eight", Thomas told KPRC.

'She loved to go shopping too. She called herself a fashionista. "Anything. I miss my baby". Wish I could polish her nails, her toenails.

Authorities said it is unclear if they were shooting at each other or if they were intentionally firing shots into the Honda.

'We just don't know'.
