FEC commissioner to Trump: Show evidence of 'astonishing' NH voter fraud scheme

"The President has issued an extraordinarily serious and specific charge", added Weintraub, who is a Democrat but was appointed by former President George W. Bush in 2002.

Ayotte has not responded to requests for comment on Trump's allegations, but her spokesman, Liz Johnson, said Ayotte "does believe the Legislature should examine residency requirements, which they are doing".

She said Trump had alleged "an astonishing voter fraud scheme that he claims denied him and former Sen".

Trump brought up the discredited theory about widespread voter fraud in the state once again Thursday in a closed-door meeting with 10 Senators, a meeting ostensibly about the confirmation process for Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

It is not the first time Trump has made allegations of voter fraud without presenting evidence.

Politico reports that, during a meeting with several senators this week, the president claimed that he had lost the state of New Hampshire because a bunch of voters from MA were illegally bused up to vote in the Granite State.

Ayotte, who is now serving as a "sherpa" liaison between the White House and senators dealing with Gorsuch's nomination, was present for the huddle.

President Donald Trump is now questioning the legitimacy of a sitting senator's election victory, according to a report from Politico. Earlier this week Trump alleged that thousands of voters from MA had been successful in illegally voting in New Hampshire.

Trump has insisted since the election, without presenting any evidence, that he only lost the popular vote because millions of votes were illegally cast. Hassan beat Ayotte by less than 1,000 votes.

A member of the Federal Election Commission is now calling on Trump to share any evidence he has to support his claim.
