Director Polański wants to return to US

Braun says he has written to L.A. county superior court judge Scott Gordon to unseal a secret transcript of the testimony of the prosecutor in the original case, Roger Gunson, which was collected in 2010 which he believes will confirm the terms of the deal.

This March 8, 2007 file photo shows attorney Harland Braun outside a Beverly Hills, Calif., courthouse.

If there is a deal, Polanski could travel to Los Angeles and appear before a court without fearing arrest, Braun said in a letter to a court dealing with the director's case.

After almost 40 years of running away from U.S. authorities, critically acclaimed filmmaker Roman Polanski will return to the USA to appeal his 1977 rape case.

Polanski actually spent 42 days in Chino State Prison and was released.

Greek city evacuated to defuse WWII bomb
Reuters reports the bomb was removed from its resting place and taken to a military shooting range, where it will be destroyed. Resident Michalis Papanos, 71, said: 'We heard on TV that, if the bomb explodes, it will be like a strong natural disaster '.

At which point, Judge Laurence Rittenband allegedly took the plea deal off the table and informed prosecutors he sought a 50-year prison sentence for the Hollywood mainstay.

Lawmakers in Poland, the country of his birth, have also attempted to extradite him to the US, but in December previous year (16), judges at the country's Supreme Court ruled he could not be sent back to America.

Cue Polanski packing his bags and fleeing to Europe as a fugitive. A Polish court ruled Polanski has served his time under the plea deal, and now Braun wants the L.A. judge to honor that ruling. He was also married to Sharon Tate, a famed model and actress who was murdered by the Manson Family in 1969. Polanski had lured her there on the pretext of photographing her for French Vogue. He has not been able to visit his daughter in London, either.

Roman Polanski is reportedly taking another run at wrapping up his statutory-rape case without doing more time behind bars, according to a report out Thursday.

Polanski won an Academy Award for best director for his 2002 film The Pianist and was nominated for 1974's Chinatown and 1979's Tess.
