Most of the injuries appear consistent with the train hitting the platform or a bumper.

Emergency crews on the scene of a train derailment in Brooklyn Wednesday morning.

The commuter train derailed on Track 6 as it pulled into the transit hub about 8:20 a.m., according to officials. "A rail actually pierced the bottom of the train, it was fortunate we didn't have more severe injuries".

Eleven of the injured passengers were taken to local hospitals.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) said the derailment caused traffic and travel delays near the station, which is also a stop for city subway lines. Other witnesses reported hearing a loud boom.

February 1950: In the worst crash in LIRR history, two commuter trains collided head-on in Rockville Center on Long Island. "But, you know, hopefully everything is fine, pray to god that everything is fine". Some passengers cried and screamed, the channel said.

"We were passing the platform and we heard a loud bang, and then we felt the vehicle jump and then we all looked at each other as if time had stopped for just a second and then we were thrown forward because the train came to a complete and sudden banging halt", said Barbanel. "People were standing, they were getting ready to get off the train, and they weren't prepared for the sudden stop". Passengers were moved to the street level after the wreck. A National Transportation Safety Board report concluded that the driver had undiagnosed sleep apnea that contributed to the accident.

"This is a relatively minor accident", Cuomo said.

"The LIRR obviously is the purview of the governor", Mayor de Blasio told reporters. The train is supposed to stop before it hits the bumper, which is just there as a precaution, he said. It did not do that. "All those things have to be looked at in the investigation".
