Iranian actress boycotts Oscars to protest Trump

Asghar Farhadi, who directed and wrote Oscar-nominated film The Salesman, allegedly won't be at the Oscars this year due to President Trump's new executive order suspending Muslims from certain countries from entering the United States.

Less than 24 hours after President Donald Trump signed an executive order temporarily banning residents of seven primarily Muslim countries from entering the US, legal challenges and real-life consequences have already begun to sprout.

"The Academy celebrates achievement in the art of filmmaking, which seeks to transcend borders and speak to audiences around the world, regardless of national, ethnic, or religious differences".

The ban on Farhadi could overturn the expected outcome in the foreign-language category: members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have until February 21 to cast their Oscar ballots and until now it was assumed that a majority of them would be voting for the much-talked- about German comedy Toni Erdmann. Director Ava DuVernay, as well as Tribeca Film Festival, have expressed their dismay at the news and are decrying the immigration ban, which explicitly targets "Muslim-majority" countries.

Carmelo Anthony Trade Rumors: Phil Jackson 'Determined' to Move Star PF
According to Fox Sports , the Cavaliers will do the Knicks a favor if they send Love to ny in exchange for Anthony. Jackson can push to trade Anthony all he wants, but it will be a tall task.

However, conflicting reports from journalists say no legal obstacle blocks Farhadi from attending the Oscars, and he has yet to decide if he wants to go.

Farhadi's reps and studio reps for The Salesman did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Alidoosti called plans for a temporary visa ban of Iranians "racist" in a message posted Thursday on Twitter. "So it's not acceptable to me to respect a state that does not respect the people of my country". "When we see Iranian artists being targeted, it feels like they are targeting us", he said. "Whether this will include a cultural event or not, I won't attend the #AcademyAwards 2017 in protest", she tweeted.

Before the order was signed, Taraneh Alidoosti, a famous Iranian actor and the star of The Salesman, said that she would be boycotting the Oscars either way.
