Manhattan high-rise fire injures 24, including young girl, firefighters

The fire broke out on the 3rd floor of 515 West 59 Street near 10 Avenue and spread to the floor above, the FDNY said.

One of Santoro's friends ran out into the hallway, "and saw the smoke". Three of those hurt were firefighters, authorities said. They also said that a smoke alarm was present "but not operational".

FDNY Chief of Department James Leonard took the opportunity to remind residents of fireproof high-rise building that, unless the fire is in their own apartment, it is usually best to stay in their units and cover the doors with towels and stay on the phone with 911. "No way I could see anything, so I went back into my apartment".

Henderson plays down severity of Barkley challenge
I don't need to say anything about this. "I think Ross is lucky and I think Jordan is lucky that nothing else happened", he said. Liverpool, meanwhile, came back after the break and snatched all three points thanks to Sadio Mane's stoppage-time goal.

Joey Barton: Burnley to sign midfielder in January
Burnley offered the central-midfielder a chance to train with them, and have now handed him a new contract to sign. Although he spent limited time at Turf Moor, the player was named Championship PFA Team of the Year.

Sheriff: Suspects in MS slayings arrested in Kansas
The driver sped off after the traffic stop, and the trooper pursued the auto but lost the vehicle, the Highway Patrol said. Garcia is not unknown to the MS correctional system, having been to prison multiple times for offenses in Harrison County.

Of the 20 civilian injuries, 14 were minor and 6 were serious, according to the FDNY. Neighbors performed CPR and firefighters carried the girl down 21 flights of stairs. Six other other were listed in serious condition, officials said. The building is used in part to house medical residents and doctors affiliated with Mount Sinai St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital. A spokesman for Mayor Bill de Blasio said he had spoken to the hospitalized, injured firefighter who "was in good spirits".

A police helicopter monitored the safety of nine people who had fled to the building's roof, and who later made it out of the building safely.

A final search of the building found a number of people sheltered in place.
