Idaho highlights its bowl moment with one-handed catch, record win

Idaho is concluding its next-to-last season as an FBS program before dropping levels with a matchup against Colorado State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho. Junior quarterback Matt Linehan threw for 381 yards and four touchdowns, adding a fifth score on the ground as Idaho got past Colorado State 61-50 on a chilly Thursday night at Albertsons Stadium.

The Rams got off to a bit of a rocky start to the season with losses to Colorado, Minnesota and Wyoming, but CSU rebounded to win four of their last five games, including a big 63-31 win over San Diego State to end the season.

Sophomore Olabisi Johnson paced the Rams' receiving corps with 265 yards - also a bowl record - on seven catches with a pair of touchdowns. The Vandals' 61 points were their most since putting up 64 points against Boise State in 1996.

Colorado State finishes with a winning record (7-6) for the fourth season in a row, second under head coach Mike Bobo. Idaho took a huge lead in the second quarter, running up the score to an exciting 20-7. Johnson also had a late-game reception for a two-point conversion.

"I think you look at the first couple drives, there were a lot of things out of character for the offense that happened", Linehan said.

Joey Barton: Burnley to sign midfielder in January
Burnley offered the central-midfielder a chance to train with them, and have now handed him a new contract to sign. Although he spent limited time at Turf Moor, the player was named Championship PFA Team of the Year.

It started a streak where the Vandals scored touchdowns on five straight drives, as well as 9 of 10. In comparison, Idaho exploded for 446 yards and six touchdowns during the same period.

The Rams only had 14 points on the board at the end of three quarters and then they exploded for 36 points in the 4th quarter, but it was still too little to late.

"We have carefully weighed our options and concluded that competing as an independent with an extremely uncertain future conference affiliation would be irresponsible when we have the alternative of joining one of the most stable FCS conferences", Staben said.

I'm not sure about you, but I'm now going to assume "It's mashing time!" is the bowl's official new catchphrase. "We'll learn from what happened and move on to next year".

While there was a total of 1,206 yards in this game, Idaho was the clear better team in an impressive victory. "They made more plays than we did offensively, defensively, special teams". "But I only control what I control, to be as good a coach as I can and make sure they all graduate".
