4 held for gang rape of United States woman

The Delhi Police arrested the four men accused by the U.S. woman who was gang-raped during her stay in a five star hotel in Delhi in April this year.

A Delhi police spokesman, Dependra Pathak, said the suspects included a tour guide, a cleaner, a driver and an another employee of the Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotel. "The complainant was kind enough to come down to Delhi, got her statement recorded before police and court and helped in collecting evidence", said Deependra Pathak, Joint Commissioner of Police, South West District.

Police said a test identification parade was conducted at Tihar Jail on Tuesday, soon after the accused were sent to two-day judicial custody.

Four people were arrested on Monday for allegedly raping an American tourist.

"On December 3, the Delhi police registered a case in connection with the gang-rape". They also threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the matter to anybody. She also talked about how being with children, since she is a teacher, has been a therapeutic experience in overcoming the trauma she has had to endure.

The US woman has alleged that she was drugged and gang-raped by the tourist guide and four others in a five star hotel during her stay in Delhi in April this year.

Police recorded the victim's statement last week when she arrived in Delhi from America.

She claimed that in July this year, she approached a US-based NGO, which, in turn, contacted the hotel authorities and the tour company but to no avail.

She also said the four men had shot a video of the attack and had threatened to make it public if she reported the matter to anyone, police said. The complain was forwarded to Delhi Police by the American Embassy.

Senior council Mrityunjay Kumar, who is representing the woman, told The Indian Express: "She is satisfied with the police investigation".
